As I was typing this

If nothing bad happens within the day — sana — I will be able to sell my current laptop. The proceeds will go to buying a new spiffy one: a black, EEE PC 4G unit, and perhaps a Nokia 1200 to augment my current.

If the sale pushes through, I will immediately ask Eman to snag me a unit in right there in Hong Kong and pass it over to  Andrea in time for her return flight on Sunday.  If a friend of Eman or Rey or Aaron or Norman will be coming home earlier and willing to cary it back home for me, the better.

The rest of the money will go to paying debts… Hehehe… I have quite a number, owing to the fact that I was jobless and penniless for about a month or so. Most of it, I owe to Tart.

From the looks of it, my new EEE PC will be with me Monday morning when I formally start another week of as a “diplomatic reporter” as what the DFA calls us.

Argh. As I was typing this, the prospective buyer of my laptop texted. He’s hedging.  And then he says he’s not buying it anymore. And my plans are now ruined. Huhuhu.

I hope to be able to sell my current laptop (see pic) today so I could get that Eee PC plus a phone and then keep some cash to tide me over until I get my regular pay.

The intention … is clear: to remove any references to issues that take to task the Arroyo regime, as well as to deface or altogether eliminate the likenesses of personalities and organizations known to be sharply critical of the ruling political clique. This is censorship, however the NPC may try to slice it.
— A statement by the Artists’ ARREST Alliance, still on the NPC press freedom mural fiasco

When you erased the statement of the International Federation of Journalists on the dangers the anti-terrorism law posed to press freedom, the alibata K – a fighting symbol – from the arm of a revolutionary leader, or the NUJP from the banners of protesting media organizations; or when you changed the headline on the abduction of Joe Burgos’ son and the faces of Randy David and Juan Mercado, was the outcome a more accurate picture of press freedom in the country?
— NUJP’s query to the NPC, in a National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) statement on the National Press Club (NPC)’s censorship of a mural’s “leftist elements”

Nov 7 '07
When you say the NPC must be “apolitical” , isn’t this denying the historical fact that the freedom to write the truth was won through political struggles that included media and journalists? That during times of intense political crisis, journalists have taken up the cudgel and fought for the freedom to report the truth?

None of us wanted a strike. We were driven to this. I’m fighting for the future of every writer.
— Joe Medeiros, a head writer at the Tonight Show, as quoted in a news report regarding the US writers’ strike
